Pick Of My Tropical (but Cold Tank)

y do u have corys in there

u shudnt have them in that tank

also u wont get a mixed community tank coldwater

as theyre isnt much avalaible in this country
as they are banned

Why do I have corys? why not, Corys (although in the main are found in tropical tanks) are perfectaly suited to colder water. Infact its the only way to get them to breed and have been shown to show greater signs of health when in colder water. My fish are perfectly happy, eating socialising swimming and breeding.

You CAN get a mixed community coldwater tank you just have to look harder and go to the right places.

What on earth is banned????

we have a 23cm goldie in along 260l tank he is still growing we keep meaning to dig a pond

wcmm come in gold normal and long fined get a mixture no tropical fish will enjoy livingbelow 15 degrees

Corys should not be kept at 10c they should ideally start atleast 18c and more.........thats where sub tropical comes in neither to cold or to warm....
wow 10c is cold my snakehead tank has no heater as the sub tropical and the temp is stabalised at around 17/18c........look at what stang1 says to see about pepered cory's

What on earth is banned????
Loads of fish.

Things that you used to see all the time like bitterlings, high-fin sharks and channel catfish come to mind off the top of my head.

All crayfish bar one tropical species are banned too.

cherax quadricarinatus are the only legal crayfish in the uk, but would not be suited to a coldwater enviroment. ideally they need a temp around 25 degrees as they are classed as tropical

darters, loads annd loads of diffewrent fish as said

they dont breed in cold water as u say its the drop in temp that causes them to breed

corys should not be kept at room tempetaure as ur keeping them
as this is far too low

Some corys are quite happy at 20C. Peppered seems often quoted as one so I'd ignore the doubters and keep them - You say they are breeding, have you had any success in actually rearing the fry at these lower temperatures too?

I'm really interested with this as I reckon sub-tropical with LED lighting would be one of the cheapest tanks to run going which is pretty attractive in these times of credit crunch!

Good luck with this project.

My LFS has sold Bitterlings recently. Are you sure those are banned?
