Only about six weeks or so till the Summer holidays, woo hoo - so I need my summer reading planned :good:

To give you an idea, I love The Lord of the Rings etc, Birdsong, the English Patient, Some Dickens, Wuthering Heights (yes I know, a love story!) - I don't do those 'Love' story type books!

Any suggestions?

catcher in the rye
Wuthering Heights
hound of the baskervilles
war and peace [that will take a year to read]
T.F.H book of tropical fish diseases
tigers revenge by claude balls [snigger snigger]

the last one is a joke

Cat World: A Feline Encyclopedia (1997)
Catwatching: & Cat Lore (1986) — a study of one of the most popular of household pets across the centuries.
Dogwatching (1986) — an in-depth study of "man's best friend".
Dogs: The Ultimate Dictionary of over 1000 Dog Breeds (2001)
Peoplewatching: The Desmond Morris Guide to Body Language (2002)
all by Desmond Morris and worth a read

Seeing as you like LOTR, have you never read the hobbit? You'll know it's the same concept.
It's a good read if you are into it.
Im not really sure what edition I read, I know that it was a post 1990 copy.

Another suggestion is Band Of Brothers by Stephen E Ambrose. Good if you are into military stories, it is just a book version of the miniseries from HBO & BBC, which I also highly highly recommend.

James.

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger

You should try "his dark materials" trilogy Starts with the golden compass, then the subtle knife and then the amber spy glass. Awsome read, I really liked it.

ANother trilogy I read was the magicians apprentice, by trudy canavan. I think its the novice, the magicians apoprentice and the dark magician. They were quite good.

If you like horros, Hannibal Rising is a good read too

Thanks, will go take a look, they sound interesting :good:

Hannibal rising - is that a Hannibal Lector book, they scare the pants off me!! I loved Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs, the books, but liked the films as well, just not as good as the books! Hannibal Rising, I haven't read but saw the film. I really hated the rape scene, the children and the cottage bit, imo it was just too awful to watch, it literally made me want to be  it was just too much.... I realise it was to put his later actions into context but omg

Hiya Seffie, Yeah its part of the Hannibal lector story, if you have seen the film then the book would be good too, to be honest the film sticks pretty close to the book, but I agree with you that the film was quite intense, even for me lol. The book is pretty intense too but well worth the read.

Oo feeshy, are there four books then for his dark materials? I have read three, maybe the Northern lights was the book that they named the golden compass??

awsome story though the amber spy glass was definately the best of the three. what an imagination Pullman has.

Twilight saga? (snigger)
How about....
Cosmo books - Cosmo and the magic sneeze/cosmo and the great witch escape(i know they sound like kids books but my mum likes them and she's 35!)
