I've been slowly losing some of my trillis, and I can't tell if it's because the LFS where I bought them is bad (which they are and I'm not going back) or if there's a big problem with my pH.

I just tested the tap water with StressCoat in it and it was 7.0. The pH in the tank is about 5.5. So every time I do a water change — and I usually do a 50% or more — am I doing harm to my fish? Could this be what's slowly killing them??

What do I do? I have to do water changes. Should I just do more frequent but less volume changes?
