Ph Natural Buffering

Hi there, relatively new to fish keeping (6months). My Tap water is shockingly acidic at around 5 on the ph scale, my tank so looking to boost the oh of tha tank, NATURALLY as i do not wish to use things like ph up, or Proper ph 7.0 etc.

I did have some sunken bogwood in the tank, however this let the ph remain around 5.5, so i have removed this now and this is nor around the 6 mark.


From my recent research i have found that crushed coral within the filter is a good way to improve the waters ph buffering capabilities. Will this essentially mean that when i put my p*ss poor water in the tank, the coral will help to boost the ph to a more desirable level of around 7?

Any help is much appreciated.

Wait, what's the PH of your tank water? Tap water is naturally acidic as the water companies dissolve CO2 to make it acidic to prolong the life of their pipes.

I'd recommend crushed coral, a handful in a filter sock will be sufficient, it'll raise your KH+PH.

I agree with Standby I actually mixed the crushed coral in my substrate but if you want it exactly 7.0 ph you might have to test your water with different amounts in it, and you could put your bogwood back in the tank
