Hey guys. Some reason my ph has been getting lower and lower in one of my tanks. It's just a 10g with a Texas Chiclid, Blue Crayfish and goldfish in it. My tap water is around 7.0 -7.2 right from the sink but I just tested my tank and its down to about 6.0 again. I've been trying 30%+ water changes every few days for a week and a half now, but its not helping. =\

What are the rest of your chemical readings? I was having a low alkalinity and low PH problem as well. I've been doing weekly 20% water changes and also bought Cycle and now my readings are finally coming up to a decent reading.

Bad...
0.50 nitrite and 2.0 ammonia
i just did a 50% tank change

I removed the gold fish. Now its just the blue crayfish, texas chiclid and a female betta. There were 2 mickey mouse tetras in there last night..but I'm guessing they've been eaten o.o

The reason for the low ph is the tank cycling and you have a high ammonia reading.

I would be doing bi-daily water changes with a gravel vac until you water is stable.http://www.bioconlabs.com/nitribactfacts.html Read this article it has alot of info. in it

firstly Goldfish need 20gallons just for theirselfs
secondly goldfish are coldwater fish and should not be kept in tropical water.
as he is in tropical water his metabalisum is much faster than normal, therfore he is
creating much more ammonia than normal.
it is doubtfull that you will ever get ontop of the ammonia untill this fish is rehoused,
prefeably into a pond.

I don't know about the cichlid, but the crayfish will also nee more than 10G
as an adult, also as an adult any fish will be viewed as food.
