Ph Gone Mad

The Bogwood seems to have reduced the PH to 8 overnight. Pretty chuffed with that as it happens :)

what was the pH of the
glass of water the next
day before you added the bog
wood but after it had stood
over night i would also
take some of your gravel
do the vinegar test on it to
see if it fizzes

The PH of the plain glass of tap water & the one with gravel in it both rose to 8.5.

I cant do the vinegar test at the moment as I am at work but will have a play tomorow.

Silly question but will normal malt vinegar do, or does it have to be that posh white stuff?

sound like the water company
are using a lot of co2 to reduce
pH from 8.5 to 7.0 and over night
the co2 gasses of and the pH rises

Yea that is my thinking, south essex is notorious for very hard water so I shouldnt be to suprised. If I can keep it at 8>8.5 then I will be happy.

I'm in Essex as well, and my PH is around 8...and it's pretty much stayed like that from day dot!

Just have to be careful on the selection of fish I guess.

you'll do alright keeping
rift valleys and malawi's
with a pH like that up in the
north were i live we have a very
low KH an pH can go from 7.5 when
taken at the tap 24hrs later its down
to 5.5 OK for discus and angels neon's
love it but when i wanted to keep rifts
i had to use tufa and coral gravel and
coral sand to buffer the pH and kh up
and keep it there

Apparently Marine fish do good in a high pH. Also, many livebearers like guppys amd swordtails thrive in high pH :)

Just done a vinegar test on my gravel. Now reaction whatsoever.

Tested the PH in my tank its now looking between 8 & 7.5. Would the Bogwood realy have made such a drastic change so quikly?
