I have a 54 litre jewel tank, the ph reads 7.6 or 7.8. is this normal for the types of fish i have, if not which fish are suitable for this ph range?:
bosemani rainbows
platy
otto
guppy
molly
harlequins

thanks for your help

which other fish are suitable(im not planning on getting more just yet btw), is it the general community fish?- thanks for the swift reply truck

ok cheers, i was thinking eventually having about 8 tiger barbs, they seem more entertaining, however im not sure how good this would look in a planted tank- im going to get the 3d marina blackor grey(havnt decided yet- what do you think)- look on ae. and get a hell load of crypts, ferns, mosses and a few stem plants- is bacopa suitable if you can remember my tank stats, if you cant say and i will post the lights ect again

cheers truck

54 litres is not big enough for tiger barbs, you want something in the region of 130 litres plus for tiger barbs. i would go invisible back ground (a white wall which is illuminated) IMO the 15 watts of light wont be enough for bacopa.

ok, have to rethink the stocking then- no im defo going for an inside-tank background- im fed up with the water marks!- if i paint the back i will still see it, and if i stick something to the back, like i am now i will still see it

cheers for the bacopa- i havnt decided wether to run diy c02 or not, i might just use easy carbo as the plants arnt that demanding, oh and tpn+- depending on my experiences with my dp tank

with inside backgrounds you will need to drain the tank and silicon it to the back pane of glass. and leave it 48 hours to cure

nah- BigC said i could just cut it tight to the glass width and fit it in, also doresy said i could do it like this, no silicone required!(i think)

thanks anyway

If you use Gold Label silicone, you'd only have to drain about half the tank and it would seal the backing straight away.

ok thanks. i plan to paint the back of my other tank, as its not setup yet. i am going to use matt black emulsion, did you reccommend a chemical that can get this off if needs be the other day truck??

thanks everyone

you could use a really fine wet and dry paper (2400) ammonia might get it off.

alright, we are all set- i am currently saving for both projects, 3 weeks and i will post a journal probably, providing i can get the pictures on

Back to your pH question. I have about the same pH as you do and have so far not found fish that have any real trouble living in it. When I am trying to breed fish that are supposed to need low pH water, I try to make a mix for them using my RO unit, but I have no idea if that helps because the fish involved have so far been very uncooperative with my efforts. So far I have not convinced myself that the pH or water hardness is all that was keeping them from breeding in my tap water.
