Just do what my husband did and bring it home. Stress how unhappy the fish are in their wee tank and that they need something much bigger. If you're interested I'll be selling a 48x12x15 tank shortly, in the Glasgow area. Tank is currently up and running and no leaks whatsoever. May even be able to throw in the filter, save you having to cycle it. PM if you're interested. Be a couple of weeks befroe I'm ready to dismantle it, give you time to work on the wife. Plus you can asure her this tank is tried and tested, she can even come see it if she likes.

I had this same problem with my partner(not the ditching part!! ), he wanted to get a fish tank and I was worried about leaks. But he got me hooked on them by buying me some books on tropical fish, and I got reading and I've seen so many fish I like, I've taken over! haha. Hes letting me choose them all, and what colour scheme for the gravel,rocks,plants and allsorts so I'm happy with the decision now! I've got some large towels and kitchen roll on standby - preparing for the worst! haha.

If you show her some really nice looking fish, and point out their characteristics, making her see why you want a bigger tank, so you can get more amazing fish, I'm sure she will forget about the leaking part, especially if you tell her you'll seal it again to be sure, and that you'll have everything prepared just in case

Your plan of action:
1. Get some books to really show off what fish species there are.
2. Say she can choose the layout of the tank! (I liked knowing I was involved too )
3. Get a really "bargain" price for a perfect fitting tank - describing how it will look when done!
4. Throw in a "treat" - shoes, bag, jewellery. - she cant lose!

I'm sure she will come round with that! And if not.....well.....you tried!!!

On returning from a visit to your local (alone obviously ) say how great it was to meet some old friends.

They suggested all sorts of events we could do (boys stuff naturally ) Try, deep sea fishing weekends, paragliding, water skiing, rock climbing, GOLF (expensive!). Get the picture?

"The boys said it's a shame that I spend so much time on my tropical fish as these event weekends (away) would be far more enjoyable"

"Do you know love, I just might give it all up, what do you think?"

Followed by a very enjoyable trip to the LFS!!!

Hmmm...Marriage is SUPPOSED to be a compromise, so offer to buy her something of equal value as the tank.
(or greater, not many women can resist expensive shiny baubles!)
Seriously though, as a woman I have no qualms about being bought off in exchange for not getting my way

Man so many replies!!

Firstly she is on a promise for good amazing sex anytime she wants it anyway!! Just to get that out the way!!

It was two aqua one 620 that have leaked on me that were brand new off the shelf. The last one did go through a house move though so may have been weakened.

She is getting into photography so im thinking camera lenses are expensive so may have to buy her one of them or tell her she can't get a bigger/ better one!

As for getting her interested in fish or getting her the fish that she likes, thats what im wanting to do. She likes bigger fish (discus, huge angels etc) so am looking to move in to one or the other with a bigger tank. Or aim at a malawi set up (she likes the colours). But she sees bigger tank and more problems.

The lads away days i can do!! I already play golf (membership at carnoustie for all you golfers out there) but try to do that on my days off when she is working!!

All being said my wife is great and I won't be "ditching" her. I did mention again about a bigger tank last night and she has started coming around. May have to go get her wasted in the pub to push her over the edge!!

If anybody else has anymore ideas they would be great!!

Thought this would be a good/funny post and you guys haven't disapointed

I think you must really appreciate her feelings,(not the part about getting her paraletic at the pub, lol) as some people on here are like,"do it anyway, I would."
If my partner did it anyway - whether I liked it or not, then I'd be having words!! and would me more likely to have put the handle of the hoover into the side of it by "accident" lol (without fish and water in of course)

Doesn't mean to say I would now though!! I would love it if I came home to find a bigger tank now, providing he had a suitable place to put it
I'm more into fish than him now
