Just been announced on Watchdog on the BBC that the next episode they'll be investigating Pets at Home.

being a pets at home "hater" for a while, i'm thrilled that finally someone has decided enough is enough!!

Whats so bad about Pets at Home?

This.

*don't click if you don't like dead things lol*

It's such a shame that the animal died but should this hatred be aimed across the board? My pets at home is brilliant. It's clean, friendly and all animals can be seen and held before buying (obviously not the fish)!! It even has an 'adoption' centre and it helps rehome unwanted animals.

Up until two yrs ago I bought all my fish and snails in p@h and never ever had an issue.

I hope this poor animal dying was an isolated case or a problem with the animal itself. This little guy looks 'fresh' so that fact it was visible could just mean it hadn't been seen by the busy team and disposed of yet!?! If it was neglect on the team's part I hope they are named and shamed and sack and sentenced!!!

Now TFF has owners with money backing them these threads should now be allowed imo. :D

In all fairness, i'm with CameraGeek on this. I have never had any issues with my local P@H's. I don't go there for advice, i go there for fish. I am usually clued up on what i am going in for. It's not like they sell any unheard of fish. Although i noticed one of them selling a Senegal Birchir which i was impressed by. They're usually very competitive price wise.

It would be interesting to find out what their stores with a marine department are like.

The one in my local area mistaken a senegal bichir as a weatherloach and it was in its own tank eating one of the ottos! i told someone and they were determined that is was a weatherloach and just walked off, it was awful

@ other posts, yes i understand that some pets at homes are outstanding with the care of their stock as i've been in a few, but the one in wolverhampton is completely the opposite of that.

at my local pets at home they are always ready to help you one of the salesmen in there is very good he knows what he is talking about he has a 5ft tank the best thing about him when i was asking him about what filter to buy he recomended a external filter that they do not sell in store only on line and said where to buy from at one of my LFS i have 4 close all within 2 miles so i went to them 3 of them said the same filter and the other never stocked them the shop that he said to go to was the best price

Rule #1 in the T&C's of the forum states that any posts are not the views of the forum owners therefore there are NO legal repercussions from members naming & shaming

I have 2 pets at homes near me and both are brilliant...

Before you buy any fish you have to fill out a form and they ask you stuff like "what other fish have you got" "how long has the tank been set up, is it cycled?" and "how many litres is the tank?" to make sure the fish you are buying will be okay and compatible with the fish you already have...

Yes you see some sick fish sometimes but that is with most pet/aquatic shops tbh... When they have sick fish they go off sale and they are moved to a different room for treatment (I have seen it) and I can happily say I have never seen any dead furry animals in my P@H either...

Nobody is perfect :dunno:

I know that, but it has happened in the past to other forum owners.

No need to argue, its nice to sometimes leave a P@H thread open as mods all have their own opinions too and know others want to share theirs.

If we can hold the naming and shaming so much it wouldnt be such a problem, its one thing to say whether you use/like the shop or not and experiences but another to keep on at a shop.

I found a brilliant article today about P@H teaming up with the RSPCA (not great move IMO) and a disgruntled local petshop owner who coments about the sheernumber of distressed customers they have to deal with as a result of p@h poor advice.

P@H came back with a very long answer, i didnt get chance to read it all but will do tomorrow :)

I've heard horror stories about Petco & Petsmart, but I frequent many of their stores in my travels and I've only found knowledgeable salespeople and fairly clean tanks. So I guess it all comes down to the individual location and/or the salespeople in a particular store. You can't believe that any of these stores would purposely kill their stock, that wouldn't benefit them now would it?
