Overstocked?

I wouldn't stress over the nitrates. 80m ppm at the end of the week isn't insane considering the levels most planted tanks are dosed to with fertilizer. If I test my fertilized tank, it is always above 40ppm, I've stopped testing there altogether for nitrates, because I know my maintenance and dosing controls it.

Unless the larger water changes are a bother.

I like bigger filters too,but never really worried about horsepower

Thanks FishFan...........Maybe deep down inside I was really looking for an excuse to upgrade the filter. After seeing my dad's I had a serious case of filter envy. Now I'm excited to get more Rios and Lemons!!! Whoohoo! They had 1 medium sized Rio & 1 really small but colorful striped little guy. If I have problems I'll move the Lemons to the 20 gallon and give the Glowlights to my father.

MTS has its benifits. Gives you the chance to play musical fish if need be! Have fun getting more fish. lol I can't wait to get my Gouramis. I am on a self-induced fish fast, untill I am sure of the health of my tank :)

Just came home with (2) more of the Von Rios with the vertical stripes!!! The bag is floating as we speak..............they were out of the Lemon Tetras.

Awesome :) Do you like your oto's alot? Are they on the front glass much? I have been thinking today of getting oto's since I don't have the plecos anymore.

I love the Otos but they need a well established tank. I ended up losing three of them when I first started my 36 gallon. I guess there just wasn't enough algae maybe? I did add cucumbers once in awhile.......

Another problem with them is their tiny size, you have a hard time finding them so if one dies, you may not know about it for awhile. Other than those factors they'd be the perfect algae eating fish for a tropical community setup since they aren't a heavy bio load like most Plecs.

:good: Algae. Got plenty of that :hyper: I've been reading about them all day and think I will get some. Thanks!

I like mine as well but downsides are as ruskull said. I'm gonna move my 2 left to another tank if I can find a small plec though.

They like groups of (6) since they're a shoaling fish.

PetSmart has them for $1 each right now too!

PetCo has the Albino Longfin Bristlenose Plecos for $11.99, a bit pricey but they were good sized at about 3 inches long. My father bought one of those.

I have (2) Bristlenose Pleco females in two of my tanks because I don't really like the albinos as much, PetCo only had males & I prefer females cause they have less Bristles & I bought the other two for $2.99 each at local fish only stores.

How big do the long fins get? Just like 6"? I may get 2 pitbulls.

I think they only get about 4 or 5 just like the regular BN's. There are something like 60 different sub species of BN's though and some supposedly get to be up to 6 inches but I don't think that's the norm.

You know, upgrading the filtration is not a bad idea either.
