Overstocked, Understocked, Or Just Right?

Hi all,

I have a 48litre tank with an Intrpet PF1 filter and a 100watt heater.
Tank is cycled (about 8 months old)

At the moment I have the following fish:

6 Guppies
4 Platy's
2 Red Honey Gourami
1 male Betta

All get along well. No nipping etc. was initially worried about the Betta and Guppies in the same tank but they ignore each other, so all is well.

The tank looks fine. Doesn't look overstocked etc, but am I OK stock wise??

i would say yes, borderline though, wouldnt add anything else.

Id say the same, maybe overstocked for my liking.
So I wouldnt add anymore

I would be more worried about the Betta being with the Gouramis than guppies. It seems very close to overstock so I am with the other with not adding anything else.

Thats good to know. Mine's looking roughly the same stock wise and I was wondering the same thing. My gut said it was about right and not to add any more fish. Although I am tempted by another female wag tail platy (I had two but the other died) ... so far I've managed to drag myself away

Cool, yes I think thats about it. I was tempted with a few neon tetras, but since they need a group of 5 or so I may need to pass.......

they do ideally need to be in a group yes. I had a group of three that I planned to double but then I lost one due to new tank syndrome and at the moment I feel adding another 3 - 4 fish would make me overstocked and could affect my ammonia, sending me backwards. The pair are happy enough though

Yeh, I think Im going to take the advice here and not put any more in for now. Tank looks nice and active now. Wife thinks Im crazy when I sit in front of it for ages just watching the fish!! Time just flies by!! lol

Yeah, my husband thought I was nuts sitting in front of my malawi tank drinking beer, just watching the fish. I told him to grab a beer and try it out! Better than TV IMO
