Is there such a thing? I am looking for an external for my 190 litre tank. Heard people on here saying their filter is far in excess of what the size of their tank is. Would overfiltering remove some of the good bacteria from the tank and how big is too big? What would be a good filter for a 190 litre set up?

Too big is when you've got too much flow in your tank for your fish and then it's just a waste of electricity and space! Only a certain amount of bacteria are going to grow in your filter anyway (due to the amount of ammonia your fish are producing) so over a certain point it's useless.

you can not over filter. As said you can have a too strong current but they are 2 separate things

the more filtration the better really just dont over do the flow as said.

i have 2 x FX5 filters on both my 5ft tanks which according to the flow rate of them is massivly over filtered but it works great :D
