wat fish can actually live with a oscer as i am thinking of getting a 6 foot tank dont know the dimensions yet but i really wanted to get a oscer and i was wondering would anglefish and rainbow sharks be any good with him

Your tank must be atleast 75 gal tank to put an oscar fish. I dont thing so anfel and Rtbs will work.

thx for the fast replys so no angel but yes to the rainbow sharks and yes i think the tank is 6ft by 2ft by 2ft

well i have just worked out that if the tank i s 6ft/2ft/2ft it will work out to 140 gallons or something is this right

i was using a litre and gallons calsulator of a different site and so wat do u reckon i should put in with the oscer as i want a tiger oscar i was thinking tiger oscar, rainbow shark, and som other fish plz create a stocklist for me

i am actually just looking at a 4ft tank right now as they seem cheaper and are stil 90 uk gallons but i dont know know i might go for the 6ft but i might go for the 4ft as i am tight on money

would u be able to put 2 oscars in the 6ft tank

do u reckon a gost knife fish or wat ever they are called would do any good in the tank soz for all the questions
i just had a dream about a big oscar and so i decided i would get one

just incase you don't know you can't just put 2 oscars in a tank and assume they will get on, you need to get a proven breeding pair to keep more than one, and for two you need a 125gal tank minimum

for compatible fish they need to be big enough to not fit in the oscars mouth, try and go to see an adult oscar somewhere and look at the size of his mouth, it stretches out wider than their body so you'd be surprised what size fish they can eat.

to mix it with other cichlids it's advisable to have a shoal of dithers, bala sharks or silver dollars are the usual two. then other medium-large semi aggresive cichlids and oddballs, medium-large sized catfish, plecs, birchirs etc usually work well.

BGK can work but you need to get the BGK big which can be difficult

I am running into the same problem. Angels and Oscars do not mix. My angel is 4 years old and a large male. The oscar (3.5") just joined the tank, and the angel is getting beat up. I have found that a Jack Dempsey and Oscar about the same size to start work well together.

In your case, this time. :)

There are no set rules and the next time you try a Dempsey/Oscar tank it may work or may not. :)

Please don't take this negatively, just trying to help.

IMO, Oscars and Dempseys are 2 of the "weakest" and sub-dominate cichlids (especially oscars) there are in the Perciformes order.

I see a lot of people (not saying this thread but these forums) suggesting Oscars of being dominating and aggressive. 99% of them aren't in comparison to the family of Cichlidae. They don't have teeth, which most others do and are much more aggressive than Oscars are.

I only say this because there are so many Oscars that are mistreated in LFS' and either brought home to horrible conditions or put away for dead because people fear them and won't buy them because they are "cichlids".

Oscars are, in general, the most gentle large cichlid there is. They have no teeth to hurt anything or anyone like most cichlids do. They have the greatest personality of ANY fish, imo. Only the A. labiatus can compete with it in the cichlid world per personality. Given enough room, you can put many together, whether they are breeding or not. They are one of the least territorial fish there are.
