Hi
I've got five 6 to 8" oscars in my 150 imp Gal tank (72x24x24) two of which seem to have paired of and started digging together and rubbing sides, I ve placed a large piece of slate near the chosen patch. Does mean that they are pairing.

Any information on oscars breeding would much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Ps after writing this i went down and had another look and they are cleaning the rock.

Cleaning a suface area is the first sign. They might also rub up against each other and wiggle. Another sign is they will liplock. This is the female testing the male to make sure he's strong enough for her liking which is Nature's way of ensuring strong fry and continuation of a species. It might get pretty ugly when they liplock but unless it gets too bad, you just have to let them do it if you want them to breed. Just keep an eye out and put a divider in for a couple days if it gets too out of hand or if the male harasses her. This shouldn't happen but just letting you know.

Keep us updated on how it goes. :)
