I believe what we are trying to do here is help cm get his tank stable at a basic level before he goes to the next step. Myself I am encouraging him to test his tank and find out why his fish are dying. I am encouraging him to find one or two mentors with a conservative approach, until he is advanced enough to go to the next steps. Can things be done? Yes. Should the hobbiest do them without understanding the dynamics? No. Debating all the possibilities, I believe at this time, is not the way to help him get his tank to the stable level. Why has he reported multiple dead fish in less than a week? That, I believe is the question to be answered.
Basically, I agree that "just throwing" fish in is not the way to obtain a stable tank. Help him make a realistic plan and follow it.
Hope I'm not being rude or offensive; I am just tired of hearing, "My fish died today. What happened?" on multiple boards
