My male and female opalines have hidden themselves away since i took
out my 2 female moonlights, they all uesd to hang at the front of the tank
but now the opalines have their own hiding hole and only see them at
feeding time? Also the males colours seem to be more brilliant and the females
has gone pale.

all levels fine apart from a nitrite spike 2 days ago, went up to 1ppm,
but has now settled after 30% water change.

150l
2 opaline gouramis, male female
2 yoyo's
5 tetras
3 young marble angelfish

just did another water change due to nitrite spiking again (no idea why?)

are gouramis a bit more sensative to nitrite?, the other fish are fine.

Hey azzman,
Sounds like your tank isnt done cycling yet or possibly going through a mini cycle. HAve you added anything or done anything new to the tank recently? All fish are sensitive to nitrite. Good luck.

added the 3 young angels this morning, but that doesnt account for the spike
2 days ago. Also added some more fake plants yesterday.

I would add more top dwelling fish. I think they are scared because theres no one around fishwise to assure them that everythings alright. After removing those two fish, you basically made the tank eerily silent to them which may have scared them shy.

It sounds like it isn't completely cycled. You said Nitrites spiked, well then your cycle will be done soon when NitrAtes consume the NitrItes. It's just not done cycling. Nitrates are reduced by water changes. You just have to let it cycle through.

did water test today, both ammonia and nitrite 0, so hopefully job done.

They are both pale now? no signs of any disease, all tank stats are fine, no new housemates.
should i be worried?
