Ok so im just taking pics of my tank

and, one of my "females" was flaring its gills at the other

i think ive been given a male

could be...but 2 of my girls are feisty and flare. The frill has to go under neath their icky chins as well, and dont forget the white dot under neath if it is a girl. Get us a photo we love photos

Hi

Its very difficult to tell from the photos. As already said a male has the extra gill flap that extends right under its chin when flaring. The white pot (ovi spot) under the belly is not an indication of a female as young male can have them, especially PK's. We have a couple of bettas which we cant decide what sex they are.

Keep trying to get a photo of her/him flaring

I would say girl. Also she has the stress stripes that girls seem to have, never had a male with them though I have heard they do...

Please remove that crowntail male from the tank. He will eventually be killed or he could turn on the females and kill them. He also looks very bloated I would fast him for a day or two.

My females flare at each all the time. It's a way of expressing rank for one thing and a way of telling your neighbor to back off a bit at times...

bit hard when ive only got one tank

a few ppl have got right arsey with me about me having my male with females

what u guys have to remember is, that i have done this based upon the knowledge i have been given from several people at my lfs

at no fault of my own it wud seem the advice i was given is wrong, unfortunately i work full time and cannot just take fish back at the drop of a hat

if any1 out there is willing to perhaps take my male crown tail then id be more than happy like that

maybe some more "friendly" posts wud be appreciated instead of treating me like an idiot and "telling" me what i have to do

you should never go on what the lfs tells you, at the end of the day they need to earn a living and they will sell you things that arnt needed or right together.

my advise is always research online before you buy anything.

do you have a net breeder or a breeding box you can float him in untill you can return him.

Tbh some people here seem so snappy about info on betta's and i feel slightly intimidated asking for advice

again if some people were slightly more friendly with their advice maybe i would have asked for more info

and which i remember rightly mentioning getting one girl to go with my male, to which some1 on here told me to get atleast 4
