My dad had a go at photographing him with a decent camera. Strangely his orange colouring seems to be none existant in the pic. Can anyone recommend which camera settings are best for fish with a SLR camera?

On another note, I risked buying a few plants and so far they seem to be pretty safe apart from the odd nibble from him. :good:

Oh he is gorgous. People fibbed saying Java fern is ok with sevs, fine when they are little but Vinny has completely ripped mine apart! (but still loves him)

 vinny is a little terror with plants aint he star. when i did find a plant he coudnt eat ( onion plant ) he uprooted it just to spite me!! gotta be honest i miss the big fella . glad hes got a good home tho

Thought I had stumped Vinney by adding a 18" plastic plant, I nearly wet myself laughing when I caught him towing it round the tank, he dropped it realy quick and looked at me as if to say "I didnt do it". its now weighted down with a large stone but he keeps trying to move it

Bigeyes he looks just lovely, cant help on the camera front I dont even have one

Too many factors to give you a clear answer I'm afraid....what lens is being used, macro fixed/telephoto zoom? Using a flash or not?

All I know is that I use a shutter priority setting on my DSLR with shutter speed set to between 1/30 - 1/60, and ISO around 400, but this does depend on light levels, and where the fish is I am taking a pic of. I use these settings with a 100mm fixed macro lens, taking shots almost up to the glass sometimes with no tripod. If a tripod is used it will make the job easier in some respects if the fish play by the rules and don't move too much, feeding time is best to take pics

Looking at the pic I'd say your dad took the pic and it was under-exposed (not enough light go in the camera) and the pic was then "enhanced" using a photo editing tool, which has lost the orange to yellow due to the artificially increasing exposure/light levels.....at a guess. (I've been watching Sherlock tonight

Better colours, because the exposure is better...you would think fish would be easy to take pics of but they're really not. I am sure your dad will get a great shot soon enough, just needs to fiddle a little and more important wait for the right moment :)
All these sevs I am seeing.....I want my rotties............NOW
