Omg Themometre Shattered!

Title says it all. Just tried to take it out of my tank to temp put in my new 20L and I must have smashed it on the side coz it broke!!!!!!! I've just done an emergency sypon to suck up the glass and the little black balls that came out. Fish are obv peed off coz I just did a mini w/c in the middle of the night but what I need to know is should I be worried?What are the little black balls? Like I said, I removed all that I could see

Water change to remove the slight amount of colored liquid, which is alcohol based. The balls are steel, use a magnet. Pick out any larger pieces of glass, smaller ones will be broken down to harmlessly small pieces after a few gravel vacs.

I don't think any liquid came out, I don't think it broke that layer of glass. There's deffo no balls left but may be some glass that I can't see

You would have thought they were made stronger to protect against things like this

I did exactly this about a month ago , and panicked a bit too as I had no idea what was in the thermometer, I gravel vac'ed everything I could see out immediately and the fish even picked up a couple of the balls and spat them back out again , did a 20% water change just for my own peace of mind and can happily report that there were have been no adverse affects on any of the inhabitants to date.

Just about wet myself though ,had visions of instant death through mass mercury poisoning or something .

LMAO I know! I'm about to order two digital themometers to hopefully protect against that again.

Dskize, Lol I know those were my thoughts too. They all seem ok this morning but I'm gonna do another vac and W/C just to be on the safe side.
