Old Tank Water For Garden Plants

Hello,

Ive recently brought some discus so have to up my water changes, i use a bit of flourish excel for my plants, apart from that only chem i use is water conditioner. Now i had the idea of putting my old water into a waterbutt for my mum to use, but im unsure if the flourish excel will benefit garden plants (yes i know its plant fert but its designed for aquatic plants) and i dont wanna go and kill her garden off was gonna test it on 1 plant but anybody else do this?

When I lived with my mum I always used to throw my old tank water over the plants. I too used excel. Non of them got killed in the process

We do the same,
The dirty tank water is great for the plants.
I too use flourish every now and then, think it would be unlikely that there is much even left in the system by the time you come to making a water change.

liquid carbon has a 24 hour life in the tank, that's why you have to dose it daily. If you only dose it occasionally, it will be well and truly gone by the time you water change. However, even if there were some still left it wouldn't harm garden plants. The fishtank water is great for garden plants - I water my veg with it!

Yep, I throw my tank water over my plants too - I don't use any plant fertilisers though.

I may be wrong but aren't lots of garden fertilisers nitrogen-based anyway? And there's nitrates in tank water... that's my uneducated reasoning

Most of the garden fertilisers have a very similar make up to the fertilisers you can make up yourself for the fishtank
