Okay.... I Got The Medicated Food....

Also, I have another question...
If I accidentally used normal fish food on a medication day, can I feed them the medicated food still? It says not to, but is that because the fish would already be full, and may not eat the recommended amount of food?

Because despite what it said, I fed them the medicated food after I accidentally sprinkled in some regular food.
Please help!

Just give them a sprinkle of the medicated food.

Okay, thank you! :good:
They'll be fine having medicated and normal food in one day though, right?
Today I saw a couple fish pooping out those stringy clear and white worms again. They will be dead or dying though, right?
What kind of worms are those stringy white and clear ones? I forget.
Does the medication treat that kind?

Camallanous worms are only red when there being feeding on the host.
If the worms are still coming out that a good sign the med working. Are the worms dead when there being passed.

How can you tell if the worms are dead or not?
They always look dead to me. (Even before I started treatment.)
They are also attached to normal poop. Like, some normal brown or greenish poop will come out, with a mucus-looking part attached.
I will try to get a picture, but you should know what I'm talking about.
So what kind are the white/clear worms? Sorry, I'm slow...
Also, say if one of the fish poops out a live worm, and another fish eats it, will he/she get infected all over again? Or will the leftover meds in their body kill it?
Thanks for all the helps so far! :good:

There will be worms coming out in the poo.
I think the med would of been already been killing the live worm that came out.
I wouldn't worry to much.
Have the fish started to gain weight as that a good sign.

The fish have started gaining weight. There is one swordtail though that is still skinny, but I think she is in the process of turning into a male. (Because that's what some female swordtails do.)

Tomorrow, I'm going to feed them some boiled, out-of-shell, mushed-up peas to clear any constipation they may have, just in case. Do you think the stringy poop could also be constipation? Or is it just the worms coming out dead?

Thanks for all the help so far.

If one still skinny the damage could of already been done.
Try the peas.
If no improvement get back to the board.

Are you feeding medicated food for bacterial infections.

On the fish that the "damage has already been done", will the parasites ever go away? Like, does the medicine still kill the worms in the fish that are beyond help? Or are they too weak for the medicine to do any good? Because I don't want the skinny fish to reinfest my tank with internal parasites.

I tried the peas this morning. The fish weren't really interested. Only the swordtails and corys were.

I'm not feeding the bacterial med, I can't get that one yet.
My fish don't have any bacterial infections though. Colin_T said that if they did, they would've died a long time ago. Plus, they aren't showing symptoms of bacterial infection.

Once you finished the worming med you have to back up with a bacterial med as parasites cause bacterial infections.
The worms should be gone in the fish that skinny but the damage has been done internally.

Okay, thank you.

How do you tell if the worms are alive or not? They are all moving when coming out, I believe that is due to the water current.
What kind of worms are the clear/mucus ones? The white ones?

What worms does the med treat.
Have you seen any live worms moving about the tank.

Umm, it treats... Aids in control of internal flagellates, trematodes, and cestodes, which includes hexamita (hole-in-the-head), spironucleus, intestinal worms, tapeworms, and nematodes, e.g. camallanus.

What kind of worms are the mucus/clear and white ones though?

I don't know how to tell if the worms are alive or not. They all move around when they're in the tank, because of the water current. (Sometimes they get stuck in a plant though, and wag around, but I think that's because of the current, again.) I have a strong water current in my tank. Plus, all the worms are attached to normal coloured poop.

Thanks.

The worming med fine as it treats most internal parasites.
Camallaonous worms are white but only turn red when there been feeding on the host.

If you see any worms remove them with a net and check if there dead.
