Ok, So What's Next?

thanks for the help guys :good:

ok, so now im doin approx 10% water change every other day.

Casualty report, one Guppy died yesturday, will it affect the others with only 3 being in the tank?

Still having probs with the food issue but will try turning the filter and air pump off when feeding, see if that does anythin. had a powercut yesturday, and Iv noticed one guppy eats from the surface now, so could be on to something lol

Still no water test kit  lol

Update: Ok, so Ive been changing the water approx 10% every other day. But I got bored with just three guppies so decided to drive down to LPS to get something different.

While I was there got a water test done, still not enough bacteria for more fish the bloke said, si came back with CHLORINE REMOVER START PLUS WATER CONDITIONER and am now puttinga cap full into the tap water im putting back in after water changes. Hopefully this will BOOST it a bit so I can get more fish lol

Thinkin, either,
more gupppies,
Neon Tetras (love these little dudes lol)
or sword tails, think those are cool.

also my bro got two algae eaters to clean his tanks gravel and there doin a good job at the mo, whats the views on these bad boys? lol

Any advise is always helpful. Thanks

Ry.

update, ok so its been a week since i got this water conditioner stuff, so goin back tomorrow to have another water test. If its all good than plans are to get: (keeping in mind I have 3 guppies)

! more guppy
! 1 Platy (are these school fish or ok as one?????)
! 1 male Sword tail (again are these ok to be as one???)
! 4 Neon tetras

I wont get all these at once, gotta let filter catch up first lol but depending on what swordtails and platys are like mite come back with them and eventually neons later on. you never know, GOD FORBID!!!! One or more of the fish die, I may change my mind.

So any advice.............. :good:

update, went down to LPS so get water test, (leaving 3 guppies at home) and result!!! An improvement lol

hardly any colour in the test tube so nearly there....decided to get 4 NEON TETRAS as there cool and they wont make that much difference to the filter.

So, drove home, and started the process of introducing the new neons. eventually they were in and swimmin round, I was watching for a few minutes when the guppies caught my attention, but I could only see two!!!! Oh dear!!!! after ten minutes, I found the third under a rock, needless to say he got flushed :-(

So stock now : 2 guppies and 4 neons. Will go back next week for more water tests and more fish (havent decided which ones tho.............hmmmmmmmmmm)

Yes, it would have been if you had read it before buying more fish. I guess you didn't find it, so here it is:

My plan is to get approx 5 fish every week till I have around 20 fish in total. I want a nice variety but also love my GUPPIES and eventually really want NEON TETRAS. I was also thinking, two female PLATS and one male PLAT? So what do the experts recommend????????
That would be far too overstocked. You're pretty much limited to 10 very small fish with a tank that size. Also many fish are schooling so need to be kept in groups of 6+. Guppies are medium sized fish so you're basically stocked up now.

..and now you are overstocked with fragile fish.

[...]needless to say he got flushed :-(
Please don't do that, just put them in the bin with normal household waste.

You are asking for more dead fish here. The tank will "nicely" hold either 5 guppies OR 5 neons. Neons are schooling fish, if you keep less than 5, they will be unhappy. Neons are also fragile fish, if you add them to a tank which is under 3 months old, there is a 75% chance that some will die, especially if you are inexperienced.

You said you wanted to look after your fish well, if that is still the case, please re-read all the replies to this post again.

I agree

just 5 fish is bull, im sorry but my bro had 2 goldfish, 1 shubinkin and a pearl scale in and there still goin after god knows how long, and there huge!!! (reason for finally getting a bigger tank and donating this one to me)

im waiting a week to see how they get on. might get more tetras tho cuz they are cool. Guppies seem to be goin a bit mad lmao, think its cuz there is only two of them now. they swim like crazy now, really fast chasing each other so im not holdin out for them. Hopefully they'll be ok. anyways, next week see how everything is and then decide

No, it's not bull. Compare it to humans. If you live in a 3 bedroom house, you can comfortably fit 5-6 people in it. Clearly, you could physically fit 10 people in, but it wouldn't be that nice to live like that - you would find it stressful. The same applies to fish.

I strongly recommend listening to the experts on here (I'm not one, by the way, but the above is something I've learned from these experts), they know what they're talking about, they aren't interested in making a profit out of you (unlike the pet shop people), they just want to help you make the right choices.

I agree, at the end of the day these more experienced people than you and i are just trying to help you and your fish.
