No idea where it came from... but there is a film/oil slick on the surface of my betta's tank.  It wasn't there yesterday and this morning it was.

I first tried the method of using a napkin to try and soak it up (don't have paper towels) and that did nothing useful.

I then tried using the vacuum to get it off and that reduced it but didn't get rid of it all... that wasn't so great as I kept losing suction.

Any other ideas how to get rid of the rest of it?

In the meantime I increased water agitation so it doesn't block oxygen absorption.

It does not bother me but you can put a bottle just underneath the surface and the film will go in the bottle.

Increasing water surface agitation, improving the filter system, using floating plants or even spreading a clean sheet of paper or paper towel can remove oil films :)

I got frustrated and just did a 95% water change and then wiped to oil that stuck to the sides... I think that has got most of it now... will see later when it settles.
