Oh No Moving House! 7 Tanks To Move

Im moving again for the second time in 12 months to a bigger house at a great rental rate. This should hopefully do me for the forseeable and I may try and buy it evertually

Ive got 7 tanks to move, 3 snakes and a gecko, the snakes and gecko are easy enough as are the majority of the fish however Im concerned about my 150g tank. Its quite old, weighs an absolute ton and chipped a bit on the edges in the last move

To get it in this house Im going to have to move it in vertically which is going to be an absolute nightmare

any tips and also can you take a tank apart and have it resiliconed?

Ive got two weeks to move everyting as I have the keys already and am busy moving a lot of my stuff over there now

all i can say is good luck with that how bigs the 150 gal maybe if you could get the use of one of them 2 wheel trolleys you tilt back wrap the tank in blankets and strap it to that. Im not sure to be honest never had to do anything like that before so just an idea.

Yeah you can re seal that tank if you need too... just be ready for it to take some time to cure. I have done now 2 larger tanks ( 72 and now a 50 ) with no problems ( knock on wood ) ...granted my seals look now where near what facotry does... but it holds water and no leaks so the main thing is enjoying the fish.

What Denz said would be the best bet. Make sure you have at least 2 more sets of hands to help with that thing and TAKE YOUR TIME.

I'm curious the best way to go about this as well, as I might be moving and I've got 5 tanks, two of which are quite large (90 and 120).

This might be stupid but how would you move the fish? Would you really bag them all?

My advice would be go go to bed early the night before & wake up with lots of coffee available! That's a helluva load, major props to you for your personal aquarium/pet store. I wish I could have something similar......... But the wife would be all loike and she'd make my life all

Yes, get one of those hand trucks that have the straps on them.

Rental centers here in the States like U-Haul have them for rent.

My tip would be to get some ratchet straps and 4 lengths of 2x4.

Cut the 2x4 so that it is longer than the length of the tank - enough that you can use it as 'handles'. Put 2 pieces under the tank and 2 over and ratchet strap it all up. The tank won't break like this as all the pressure is going vertically to the glass.

I have moved a 7 foot tank using this method and the wood overhang meant that it could easily be lifted by 2 blokes (quite beefy ones though!)

Others have already given you some good advice, but I just wanted to wish you good luck! You don't say what kind of fish you have, but it might be an option to buy some big bins to keep the fish in while you're moving, and run your filters and heaters in the bins too. It'll help you to keep calm and do things slowly and properly when you can rest safe in the knowledge that your fish are okay no matter how long it takes. Moving a tank is stressful enough as it is, let alone seven, let alone trying to rush because you don't want to leave your fish in whatever containers they're in.

Definitely line yourself up with some strong helpers. I've moved tanks that size with the help of one other person, but you're going to need an extra to get it vertical. A fourth to guide the move would be a big help. I haven't heard of anyone taking apart their tank and resealing. That sounds like a last resort and major pain to get it back to non leaking status. Blimey mate, you really don't do things by halves...!! taking a tank to bits and resealing it? That is some frightening shizzle! Ive just resealed a little 32" tank and was bricking it! LOL!!!!

Hi Simon. when my 5x2x2 wasa delivered we had to bring it in vertically as it wouldnt go round a corner at the front door we put an old bit of carpet down stood the tank on it and dragged it through. just get someone to help keep it steady while you pull it and it will be fine

spot on for that Matt there is a bit of loose carpet there already

well one snake and one gecko in already, the other two snakes and tortoise going in wednesday with my mates van and I can do 4 tanks on my own this week .Will just need help on the 4ft and the 5ft.

The fish will be in buckets Im only a mile down the road theyre all freshwater bar my little reef which will be a pain cos if the amount of rock etc
