Oh My God This Is Horrible!

thanks for all the suggestions!
i'll try to locate some of that needlepoint plastic mesh sheets. i just hope it's better than what the LFS sold me
i actually already have an air pump that i'm not using, so i guess i could just buy the stones and dig them into the gravel!

let me try to do this one more time i guess! i'll post back when I have updates :good:

try adding lots of ial in the water :good: brilliant stuff best medicine about. put 2 -3 leaves in,will go very dark but bettas like it strong. Maybe a little bit of salt to help aaswell. :good:

i get the sheets of plastic mesh from hobbycraft. It's downwith the kids beads and sewing bits, not where you would think it would be with all the proper sewing stuff.

got it today from Wal-Mart.

this stuff is great. Looks better, much bigger holes. nice.
also added the air stones as recommended and a background...and changed the lights...and added a cryptocoryne as I had envisioned in the middle partition.

the only thing is...he still managed to get across. the blue stopper bars touch the lid, but they dont go across the entire width of the tank, and in the corners he just wiggles his way over...i think I already found a fix though, but for now i dont want to mess it up...i'll fix it when i'm going to add another betta in there. for now he can enjoy his palace.

the only thing i'm not satisfied with is the little heater i bought. it's a 50W tetra heater, so it's not bad, but it wont let me change the temperature, so it's always running at 77-78F. is that too low? should i spend more money (yet again) to get a heater where i can set the temp at 82F or something?

I just have another sheet resting on the top as one of my girls is a jumper,,,,,well she isn't shes a fish,, i mean she jumps alot

I would just lower the water lvl. Yeah it's not as pretty as when the waterline can't be seen, but at least you won't have to worry about the fish jumping over.

that wouldn't do me any good because the part where he crosses over (remember i said he's not jumping) is right by the filter, and i wouldn't be able to cover that with the sheet. like i said, i already thought of something. i had originally bought dividers and i still have the top part for the unused one. i'll cut that to fit the empty spot where he crosses over and voila, he won't have anywhere to go....then i can worry about adding a second guy to the mix :hyper:

I'm so sorry to hear about that! If it's any consolation, I would have euthanized him too. I've never had a betta come back from that much fin damage, and it looks like he had injuries on his body as well along with a huge amount of stress.

77-78 degrees is fine. I only bring it up higher when I'm trying to grow fry.

I also use needlepoint canvas- it's the best! Your setup looks great. Good luck filling in that spot.

Hi - I like the improvements you've made to this tank - I'm sure your Bettas are going to be happy chappies in there now.

The one that keeps escaping into the other chambers sounds a determined little fellow - you ought to name him Houdini since he's such a good escape artist  He's obviously very inquisitive, wanting to see what's next door!
