Oh Dear. What Is This On My Gold Sucking Loach?

Dosed the whole tank with Interpet Internal Bac meds yesterday. Can't really see much difference in the swelling with the loach though. Guess it isn't any worse! Second dose of meds isn't due til Thursday. Could I safely so another Epsom Salt bath at some point?

Did lose the smaller of my 2 puffer fish today. =( Not sure if that was a reaction to the meds??

Have you increased aeration with the med.
Did the fish that died show any symtoms before death.
Not sounding to good if the swelling not going down.
Keep doing the epson salt baths I know its a pain.
Have you seen him go to the toilet yet.

Yes, I have a bubble stone that usually runs for 6 hours overnight. I've now switched it on permanently.

No, no prior symptoms with the puffer. I've only had him a week or so but had been doing well. =(

There is a chance that the swelling has gone down slightly but nothing significant. I will try and do another salt bath this evening.

Haven't seen him go to the toilet as yet.

Ok.
The problem with lfs bought meds there only good on mild cases.
If no improvement in the next few days you might need to ring the vets.

i still say its external looking at it, if was my fish id try meth blue if all else failed but thats just me

Hi just noticed you have a figure 8 puffer in there. He should really be in a slightly brackish tank.
Also be very careful medicating with him in there as the cannot handle strong meds. Best to half the doesage or get him out of there.

Well sad to say that Goldie passed on this afternoon. =(

It looked like he was getting better as the swelling had gone down but he then took to hiding (which wasn't like him) and there was a deep red mark on his side that makes me wonder if there was some kind of internal bleed/organ failure and perhaps not an infection/constipation after all. Shame as he was a lovely fish.

With regards the puffer, I was led to believe that the figure 8s don't need to be in brackish water. Is this wrong? The statement about meds may well be true as I lost the smaller of the pair last week after the first dose of meds went in the tank. The surviving one is doing very well though. Eats like a bloody pig. Hilarious watching it trying to swim around after its stuffed its belly full of bloodworm!!

TT.

Bless him R.I.P.

Sorry to hear about you goldie!

With regards to the F8 as they get older they tend to do muck better in brackish setups. Even if they are low end.
When i first got mine i was told they would be fine in freshwater but soon learned they wouldn't. They will live in freshwater for a while but they wont live as long and as well.

Kind Regds
