Numerous Problems

well after coming home from work we come home to our blue guppy very very unwell with his head sticking out of a plant, after moving him he just kind of floated around them swam off then floated around some more and swam off again.......

this was blue guppy:

unfortunately about 15 minutes after takin this picture he was on his side dead.....

could this just be a knock on effect of the Ich we've had lately or something else more sinister as the guppys never really seemed to be effected by the Ich?

How long was he spending on the substrate as it can be a sign of a bacterial infection.

Bless Him. R.I.P.

he wasnt spending anytime on the substrate till about 15 minutes before he died.....

i took a water sample to my water to my localish pets at home who said everything seemed ok apart from the ph which seemed a little high at around 7.5ish.

could this be the problem??

also we so wanted to buy more fish but instead came away with a plant called Lobelia Cardinalis

What's your tap ph.

at the moment i dont know.... when he did the water sample he said i shud have took some to check the ph of the tap water too... didnt even think of that

as soon as i get some testi stuff il let u know

I would also invest in some liquids test kits of your own that way you will know your own water stats.

i do have ammonia, nitrite and nitrate liquid API test as to buy them all was too expensive.....

i just didnt realise that having fish would be so time consuming and troublesome.....does everyone else have these problems or is it just me???

what do you think to the new choice of plant?

There lots to learn about fish.
Have you found out your tap ph yet.
The plants sound lovely.

tap water test will have to wait a little longer as my LFS was shut early....

do you know much about my new plant as we only bought it because of the purple colours on it

I don't know anything about plants. Try posting in the plant section of the forum.

things have gone yet more downhill.......i thought id change my light timer this morning so it comes on a little earlier, then as i was adjusting it it came on and the water wasnt moving.....after 4 months of use my Fluval 2+ has given up..... so down to my local Pets At Home and they have stopped selling it so i got a refund and bought the new Fluval U2 and a few more plastic plants and a real one.....

then when im about to start to give the tank a real good clean i find yellow guppy dead RIP .

we also did some water tests before we changed any water which showed to be:

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
Ph 7.2
Tapwater 7.2

although the Fluval U2 seems to be a good filter i have 1 major drawback, the outlet heads dont move like the old one, so whichever way you have the filter facing is the way you have the outlet going unless you use the spray bar which doesnt give much output

the tank is a little cloudy due to adding 2kg more of sand but that'll be clear in morning

I would ask about the filter in hardware as I'm not familar with this type of filter.

Did the dead guppy show any symtoms.
R.I.P.

no guppy didnt show any signs, theyve both been through so much when my water kinda stopped cycling, to when other fish have died, through the ich several times and theyve been ther pretty much from the beginning so we was expecting them to die much earlier.....

how does the ph seem for the fish I've already got??

Ph is fine for the type of fish you keep. As long as fish are climatised properly they should be fine.
