I was lucky enough to find and catch several colour morphs of Micropoecilia picta including two distinct colour morphs of the red variety. I have never seen any mention of these distinct variation - indeed i found several differant colour morphs none of which i have ever seen documented. Space dictated that i dispose of some of these morphs since i could not keep them together and expect to keep them pure. I let some of the green and some yellow varieties go but reports feeding back to me was that people were having trouble keeping females alive after their first broods. It,a a pity because these particular morphs will likel;y now have died out in the hobby. Fortunatly the ones i have been keeping have been very promiscuous and i have loads of both morphs of the red variety. I did sell some 9 months ago at a specialist society convention but have heard nothing about their progress even though up to £13 was paid for small pairs. These fish are a little smaller than guppies when they are full grown but when they colour up bright red all over the body and sometimes into the fins they are a most spectacular fish whichever red morph you have. Please if anyone wishes to breed these fish dont mix the differant morphs and dont risk mixing with guppies as you may find you have a rather messy tank of cross breeds.

I have seen Micropoecilia picta - red for sale before but not by a collector. They were more or less an aquarium strain of the reds whose collection data had been lost. My guess would include fish48 and dunchp as keepers who either have some or have had some in the past. I don't recall any pictures of variations that I would call yellow or green though.

I only no of the red strain it can be very difficult to tale if it is a true micropoecilia
there were some in the uk about 4 or 5 years ago they turned out to be a type of guppy.

Here is a photo of Micropoecilia picta from Bristol show jst a couple of week's ago.

Cela n'est pas un problem pour moi DuncHP. Je lit le Francais et merci pour the link. There are very nice pictures of micropoecilia there. My command of French breaks down at times but the link is quite helpful.

i've just got fry off these and a shop bought strain they dont look like the same fish.the wild form has markings on the fins whereas the shop bought has clear fins but more body colour.so one of them is wrong but which??
