Not So New 65g (uk) Reef+ 10g Sump And New 30g Fuge

Well picked up the other MH today, got it off flee-bay for a tenner, makes me cry when I spent 120 on my new one. Bonus he gave ma a bucket of reef crystles for free.

Righty time to sort out the sumps.

I have a 3' a 30" and a 18" tank avalible. I'm thinking that the 3' will be a communal sump that both tanks drain to housing skimmer and heaters and the like. The 30" will be a DSB/fuge and the 18" as a top-off tank. Might get some drawings done today.

Thinking might be like this.

However might use the 30 and tha main tank sump and the 18 for the SH tank sump then link the two through the 36 used as a large DSB/fuge tank.

Still thinking........

Any input anyone.

Looks good to me matt. You want both drains to drain to the same spot and the pump to be split at the top for ease and simplicity of operation. Using multiple pumps etc gets tricky at best. If the logistics of fiting the tanks works, I'd go with what you've got. Your other option is to swap the 30 and the 36" tanks, but thats really not much of a difference :)

I'd keep the 36 as the main sump because its taller by 4" so can have a larger water volume. With a DSB its area that counts.

Plus just found out that the return pump I bourgh can be externaly mounter so the whole of the 30" can be a DSB/fuge

Beware of having the pump draw directly off the fuge compartment... I've seen many a pump head jammed closed by chaeto/culerpa/whatever
