Not My Carps

I love carp! I live for carp fishing (and fish keeping)
We look after all the fish we catch and return them to the water as quick as possible and cause as little stress to the fish as we possibly can.
We have an un hooking mat so the fish dont get hurt on the ground and when we release them we cradle them in the water and wait untill they swim off when they have got there energy back. Here are some pics of the mirror carp i have caught. (sorry if it isnt relevant but i love carp too much to egnore this thread).

Koi actually means carp in Japanese, referring to both wild and ornamental forms. The ornamental forms have been selectively bred from common carp showing color mutations, similar to the modern goldfish (another member of the carp family) and the long-finned colorful betta.

Koi usually is used for these guys specifically in English, but carp refers to a whole family of species; technically that would include koi and goldfish though the common carp is the first to spring to mind. Either way works for me, I love the common carp too even if they don't come in such pretty colors.

Thank a lot, Tessla. You surely know much about carp and Koi. I guess start to know more about Koi and carp.
If people like carps or Koi, I may post more Koi pics later . I didnt have any Koi myself. But I took some photos from my trips to China. I guess many Chinese like Koi.

Joemuz, Thank you very much for your share!!!!!!! You caught a very big carp. How could u pick it up? I thought it was very heavy....

They are very heavy! This one was 13lb in weight. My biggest is 21lb 5oz and it was huge! Im 14 years old and only 4'.7 so you can imagine the size.
I was over the moon. I was wxpecting to get abuse for catching them of people that think fishing is cruel! I think killing fish is not very nice but i release every single fish i catch. Unless i get in a situation where a fish is sevearly injured and is going to die, luckly i hav never had to do that. Thanks, Joemuz
P.s if you want more pics i have loads more.

I just know a little, would love to have a koi pond someday. I saw them all over the place in Japan while I was there, a park or garden wasn't quite complete without a big pond for koi. Over there koi are a symbol of love and friendship since the word koi also means love, I wonder what they represent in China? Maybe they just think of them as beautiful fish like we do here.

That's a huge fish Joemuz! I've never been a fan of fishing myself, I prefer watching them in aquariums. Sounds like you treat the fish you catch very well, I've got nothing against responsible fishermen.

Joemuz, I want more pics. Please

Tessla, 錦 means something elegant, good and beautiful in Chinese.

Koi in chinese is 錦鯉。
Carp is 鯉。
Fish is 魚。

Here you go.

That's very interesting, the Japanese use the same Chinese characters, one of these days I'm going to have to learn Chinese. 鯉 is pronounced "koi" and translates to carp, 錦鯉 is pronounced "nishikigoi" and refers to the ornamental form specifically.

some old photos...taken form a fish pond.
Not artistic....
