Noisey Fluvel 105

Hi all,
yesterday i brought and installed a fluvel 105 and it is making a very loud humming sound and ive read up on this and ive read that it is probably trapped air, so ive tried shaking, using the primer and tiping the filter, how ever when i tip the filter some water does leak out and i was wandering if anyone could give me help and advise on how to make my fluvel quiet.

Did you remember to fit the rubber gasket? This may be your problem, without it the canister would be able to take in air and potentially leak.

yes it is in their it was brand new so it had ludericant on there, how long would it normally take to stop making this noise? because everywhere online people say it is the quietist filter they own?

I have the 205 and it's not quiet but nor is it loud. It's a great filter that just hums a little. I would carry on trying to get rid of air pockets as that's probably the problem. You need to lean the filter in every direction and jerk it about a bit.

The Fluval 05's are quiet and should be quiet a maximum of about an hour after priming. So something's not right as you say. Is there any kind of gap between the canister and the head? Do the clasps click and lock firmly? Is the impeller cover seated correctly and 'clicked' in?

I gave up on my 305 after a similar issue but that was after a couple of years use. You shouldn't have these problems with a new one so just check everything over and start again maybe?

with my 205, after opening it up it is always loud for a while, i give mine a quick shake seems to make it quieter, but i wouldn't recommend doing it!
Just check the filter is not vibrating on something, Also check the pipes, as mine vibrate.s against the wall so i put a tissue around the pipes..

There is a gap between the top of the filter and the canister the gap small about half a centimeter I just assumed it was okay. How can I close this gap?

Is the gap in the corner, it may be where the wire is supposed to sit...

Half a cm sounds like a lot to me. Is the rubber o-ring definitely seated correctly? When you lock the clasps down the head should shut tight to the canister.

everything is sealed properly but the gap is proberly about one quarter of a cm sorry i said one half i was trying to do it from memory, but the noise seems to be from the impeller
sorry to waste your time im just concerned as the tank is in my bedroom and i dont want to be up all night. thank you for all your help

If you think the sound is coming from the impeller then it may be that something has got caught in there. You should have a manual telling you how to dismantle and clean it. Regarding the gap you say you have when the lid is on I have a external fluval but you have to really push the lid down hard before you flip the seal clamps up.

well the clamp is on as best as i can get it, but im looking for my little tool now and ill have a look at this and ill let you know how i get on,

nope no different, the white part of the impeller is that removeable or does that stay on?

I think you can use the small tool to lift the impeller out completely, I'm not too sure but it's probably possible.
