I have a bubble curtain along the back of my tank, and I've found that with my Penguin 170 when bubbles enter the filter intake it makes a very annoying and fairly loud noise.

I had to move the filter all the way over to the right of the tank so the intake was out of the bubble streams to stop the noise.

The problem is that I'm about to install an Emperor 400 which I won't be able to place over as far since it has two filter chambers and the intake is in the middle.

What can I do to stop this noise? Has anyone else had this problem of noise from bubbles entering the filter intake?

Any advice/ideas are appreciated!

I have had this problem before also. I solved it the same way as you by moving the filter away from the bubbles. I was going to try a foam pre-filter on the intake tube which would probably keep the bubbles from entering the tube.

Here is a link to an example on EBay.
You should be able to cut your own out of some soft craft-store foam.

Let us know if there's another solution you find. It may come in handy later.

Put a small rock over the section of bubble curtain under the intake. It will divert the bubbles to the side.
