I'm not sure so don't quote me on this but if you detoxify the ammonia and nitrite there will be nothing to feed your filter and it will not cycle properly so you will have to continue to add the prime. Can someone verify or falsify this because I could be making it up completly.

Hi there. I don't think the prime affects the cycle. It converts it to another form but as far as I know it can still be cycled out. I have ammonia in my tap water and use prime as a conditioner. When I add the water to the tank, the ammonia in the tap is cycled out.

Correct. Ammonia which has been treated by Prime can still be used by the filter bacteria. It is well worth using if you can get hold of it.
