Nitrate Wont Budge

hey I have just come out of a fishless cycle and I am getting fish tomorrow. I just did a 90% water change then added 30% water then drained the whole tank. After this I topped it full again but the nitrates are still just above the 40 mark how can I get them down they wont budge!

If you do big enough water changes, it will come down; there's no way it can't, unless your substrate is solid nitrate! 40ppm is nothing to worry about anyway; test your LFS water when you get your fish; I bet you anything you like it'll be way higher than yours.

yeah i wouldnt worry about it, my nitrates were always in the red when i setup my 4 foot tank around this time last year, it wasnt for a few months until it measured somewhere in the orange. Ignore it. 40 is nothing anyway.
