I have read nothing about the Cowboys having knowledge of the suicidal tendencies. They well may have or it is also possible that it was only known by his family and they hid it from the Cowboys to not endanger his career.. Since I don't know for fact I won't guess.
As to CTE I won't say that it is not possible but it would seem to be unlikely CTE normally shows up later in life and he was only 24. As an example take Bernie Kozar who was a Browns QB in the 1980's. He suffers from CTE but there was no sign until well after his career ended.
And, believe it or not, the recent time change may have been a factor. After a time change the suicide rate in the U.S. increases by about 6.5% although that is more prevalent with the spring time change and is attributed to the disruption in the sleep schedule.
I wasn't going to say this but will as long as it is understood that this is just my own speculation and I have no facts to prove it. I think he intended to die when he got in his vehicle. It makes no sense that he would flee a traffic violation stop leading to a high speed chase. Sounds like an attempt to commit suicide by police. Suicide by police happens more than you may think. It is a situation where the person that wants to die deliberately creates a situation where the cops end up taking them down. When the cops lost sight of him they gave up the chase so this attempt failed. Then he crashes his vehicle which could have, also, been a failed attempt. He then shot himself. Please keep in mind that this is all just my own speculation with no basis in proven fact. However, it DOES do a decent job of explaining the chain of events.
