Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum. I decided to join because I've recently set up a 50 gallon tropical aquarium~~

I would like your opinion on my current fish~ I realized I researched a lot after I bought some of the fish. For example, some of my tetras are not in school of 6... Pearl Gouramis could be aggressive... So could Odessa Barbs...

1x 12‘’ Common Pleco
2x small common Pleco
2x female Odessa Barbs
3x Fully Grown Pearl Gouramis
14x Young Neon Tetras
2x Black Skirt Tetras
2x Pink Tetras
3x Red Eyes Tetras
5x Serpae Tetras
9x Mollies
2x Female Swordtail
3x Medium Turquoise Rainbowfish
1x Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
1x Large mystery snail
2x Assassin snails

I feel like I have a lot of fish, yet the tank doesn't look bloated... I know I should keep most of these in schools of 6 in their own species, but so far they all get along fine. The Pearl Gouramis are very shy and gentle..Most of my fish are still really young so they don't take up much space.

However, I am open to your opinions on which ones I should get rid of first. I want more plants in my aquarium and want to trade some of these fish away.

Your stocking is no good. You'll need to rehome a bunch of fish to make this work.

Did you at least cycle the tank before putting all these fish in there ?

Welcome to the forum! I hope that we can guide you through these tricky times so that you can enjoy this wonderful hobby.

Firstly, how long has the tank been set up for, and how was it cycled? Please read the sticky topic at the top about the nitrogen cycle. I have to be honest, that's a lot of fish - the tank is stocked to it's limits and beyond. I would hope that you took several months to add them, one small shoal at a time. If the tank wasn't cycled with ammonia prior to putting fish in, or they have been added in bulk recently then you need to take as many as you can back to the shop asap as you will soon be faced with a toxic tank which will unfortunately kill most of your fish unless you are extremely dedicated and change 90% of the water several times a day.

Secondly, the plecs need to go back. Don't replace them (with smaller species of plec such as bristlenose - but just one or two) until the tank is at least two months old to give it time to mature. I would personally take the mollies back too as they grow big and the tank will have too many fish if you leave them. TallTree has covered the other fish quite well.

I note what you say about the fish being young however this i irrelevant as they will all grow and you still have a responsibility to home them adequately. Believe me, no-one is going to want three fully grown common plecos (12 inches +) when you run out of space. If you had guppies or other short-lived species that live a few years that might be relevant but most of your fish will live at least five years with some, like the plecs, living significantly longer, about 30 years!

Just to add to the above advice, Rainbowfish can grow to 4-5 inches and need a fair bit of room to swim around in so a tank of at least 4 foot is probably minimal requirements. The dwarf rainbow should be ok but needs to be in greater numbers.

I'd also take back the smaller numbers of tetras and get one type.

As a rule of thumb you can have around 125cm of fish in your tank when fully grown so that would be the three Plecos taking virtually all of that. I think your overstocked and with the wrong types and wrong numbers to be honest.

If you give us some more details as per sadguppy maybe we can help you get to a better balanced tank.

Geez. He's probably still got all those fish and added even more to the mix! Honestly!
