Newbie...

Hello!
I joined Fish forums today and would like to introduce myself. I live in a village in West Sussex in the UK - with about 30 freshwater tropical fish and a few shrimps. Plus, I have a garden pond. I kept aquarium fish many years ago and have just rediscovered how nice they are to have around. Watching the fish is a better option than daytime TV during lockdown!

You're absolutely right, much more fun to watch the tank than the daytime TV Although I'll confess to sticking some daytime TV on to have in the background while doing water changes and things, lol.

Re. The pond - it’s hard work! It’s still full of grotty stuff from the winter - and about 30 breeding toads. As soon as the toad spawn hatches and the tadpoles can swim about I will clear out some of the detritus so I can see the fish for the first time for months.

Same my friend, same! Have a large pond outside. Not much work to maintain really, it's been running for ~ 25 years, but countless breeding frogs. Almost alarming when I walked out there the other morning and the whole surface was covered in frog heads, peeking out! Haven't spotted any toadspawn yet this year though, but masses of frogspawn as usual!

Same my friend, same! Have a large pond outside. Not much work to maintain really, it's been running for ~ 25 years, but countless breeding frogs. Almost alarming when I walked out there the other morning and the whole surface was covered in frog heads, peeking out! Haven't spotted any toadspawn yet this year though, but masses of frogspawn as usual!

I'm surprised that frogs can survive in UK.
I thought they would die during the winter.

Yes, keep some beautiful and interesting fish with some shrimps.
Maintain the aquarium well and do some simple aquascaping with driftwoods, gravel and rocks...
Your aquarium will become the best TV if you maintain them well.
I can spend hours watching the shrimps grazing at the algae and biofilms.

I have red, yellow, blue and Long nose shrimps. Long nose shrimps are bigger and they hop/swim around just like helicopters.

My best shrimps are the Sulawesi shrimps White socks.
They have white legs just like someone wearing socks.

My most active and most intelligent invertebrate is the Panther Crab from Sulawesi.
It's so intelligent and it moves so fast.
