I went to a lfs last week to find out more about keeping fish as I haven't done this before but they weren't much help really, but luckly I stumbled across this site and have been reading up since. I've just been brave / stupid and bought a tank from ebay with lights which is 2ft 9 lentgh x 1ft 8 height x 1ft 2.5 width. I won't know till I get it if I need a new filter / heater too as the lady selling it doesn't know what all the bits are.

I'm still deciding what I want to end up with really and keep changing my mind but I'm thinking black moon sand initally as I want some corys I think, and some live plants as well but not sure which ones yet but I think I need extra sand for that with nutriunts in.

I'm going to do a fishless cycle but hoping I can get some mature media to help me a long a bit with that too once I sort the filter side out.

This post is just to say hello really I guess and thank you to everyone as I know you've all helped me already by reading your posts, so I didn't just buy a tank and sticking the fish in the next day.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions once I pick the tank up but if anyone in worksop / sheffield / doncaster sort of area can help with mature media etc I'd be eternally greatful. Also with recomendations of good shops too with clued up staff that would be useful too now, but I'm not going to rush into too much too quickly I think is the key from what I've read.

Thanks again

Suz

Welcome to the forum, Suz, and good luck woth your new tank and the cycle :good:

There are lots of plants that will grow quite happily without extra nutrients, but it's best to cycle the tank before you add plants, so you have plenty of time :)

good luck with your new tank id advise you look on here for plants much better than LFS i spent a fortune on plants (they are 3small pots for £12 in MA) and with a large tank you might want a few and on here theres much better deals you can get

Welcome to the forum Reality.
Your tank is a very nice size for a first tank. Please post up a picture or two of everything that you get and we will try to help you identify it all.
