Hi all, I'm a newbie thinking about getting a juwel rio 125, this being this is the only size I can get due to space at the moment. Dimensions Tank : 81cm x 36cm x 50cm, 125ltrs.
I wanted cichlids due to there vibrant colours and there busy character. But my research tells me the tank would be too small. I would like something similar with regards to the colours ect. Can anyone give me any ideas please?? I have no idea about this.
Thanks.

First thing first, lets get that tank cycled, & while it is doing that you can research all the fish that takes your fancy.

Your sized tank is plenty big enough for a wide selection of Cichlids. Although granted these would have to be ones classed as dwarf Cichlids, don't rule them out. Anomalochromis Thomasi are some of my favourite dwarfs and are very underated. Their colouration, nature and behaviour is very interesting. You could then stock with a shoal of something such as the smaller Tetra's or Rasbora's.

thanks for the quick replys everyone!
I was thinking dwarfs aswell minnnt. Was the obvious choice. I did a quick research and am I right in saying these will need plants as I don't want plants in. Just wanted sand and rocks/slate just simple?

No you can use platic plants they fo the same job.
Live plants would be better tho.. Helps remove ammonia and nitrites.

Just make sure they haven't got sharp edges.

Guppies xD

They'd live in toilet water if you do a fish in cycle!

Probably not the best advice to give a beginner to the hobby :/

As above, i would recommend you check out the beginners resource centre, and read up on the Fishless Cycle if you haven't ready. Its the safest way to ready a tank for Tropical fish, and saves any harm being caused by possibly ammonia spikes. Your need to learn the nitrogen cycle if you havent already :)

You'll have a few weeks to research the fish while it cycles..

and :hi:

hey thanks for the reply, I will read up on that thanks.

Good stuff! How many of each you reckon I could have like pairs or trios ect?

You could have an Hareem of Apistogramma's, 1 male and 2 female, then look into some dither fish that you like. A nice shoal of something opposite colours to the Apisto's would be an excellent contrast. As mentioned, whilst you're waiting for the tank to cycle, do plenty of research and consider your options. If you didn't want a shoal of one thing then you could add some Platy's which are hardy, colourful, easy to breed and pretty friendly if kept in the appropriate numbers and male to female ratio. Again, 1 male to 2 females would be a good starting point, even 3 females would be good with 1 male.

Hi im a newbe and i am realy consused  i have no idear what fish and how many to gat to live in a size H 26 x W 40 x D 29 cm tank any feed back would be appreshated

Hi there.

First of all, you need to get your tank cycled. The articles on how to do this (along with many other useful ones) are in the beginner's resource centre (link is in my sig). Have a read of them.

Your tank is really quite small, so you'll only be able to have a few small fish, but there's plenty of time to think about that while you're cycling :good:

As far as I know, lemon goldies only come in a 'normal' form (as opposed to 'fancy, which are short-bodies and have a twin tail), in which case your tank is too small. You could have two fancy goldifsh, although even they might outgrow your tank in a year or two.
