New Wrigglers

Brazilliensis wrigglers still here! I am so proud of this pair  . Severums not doing too bad this time either its the longest they have kept them in the main tank.

cant believe it i thought they wouldnt even last through the first night

Neither do I my flabber is well and truely gasted. They are doing fantastic, mum and dad still guarding, no problems with any other fish. They didnt get stressed even when I had to catch a couple of Ellioti yesterday for someone. (why they wouldnt have 2 from the other tank I dont know they are all the same  )

Just checked on the tank as mum and dad are no where near the rock. All the babies have dissappeared from the rock. They are following mum round the tank :hyper: cant watch them get eaten now, I know I am going to end up moving them

Went to bed last night and said goodbye to the free swimming babes, thinking now they are moving around the tank they would become a midnight feast, No they are still there cruising around the tank like they own in, the plec was in the middle of the bunch hoovering the gravel one went in his mouth and the plec spat it back out!!!!!

I think the parents will eat them in the next few days or so (unless I move them) as they will be ready to spawn again I think.

Great I will be queen of Brazilliensis

Just hope the keyholes do as well as I have discovered I have one male and 2 females

It's better to have 1 male to 2 females then 2 males to one 1 female I think your keyholes will be fine you just have to wait. Those geos breed as easy as cons. The larger they get the more fry they have. I'm really suprised that your cons are worth more then the Brazilliensis. Around here you can't even give away cons.

Made the decision to remove the fry today to another tank to give mum & dad a break but discovered to my horror mum looks like she has a touch of ich, spot on her tail and a couple on her head, got to be caused from the stress of caring for her brood. Blown me moving the fry because they would have to go in with either the convicts or severum babies, darnt risk contaminating those. None of the other fish have any signs of it just mum, cant even move her to the hospital tank as its in use now. Going to have to treat the whole tank and hope the babies are ok, poo! blooming fish!

Are you sure its Ich? Im sure you know the difference, but they are prone to the odd white patch on their body, either thru scraping on something or the odd tiff. Anyway, the fry should be fine with the treatment and higher temps for a while.

Hiya hun, to be honest I am not 100% sure, been hovering over the tank with the meds lol. It maybe just a couple of raised scales, watching her she is having a bit of a set to with Seymour as the fry are just all over the place now and the poor girl is going frantic trying to keep them together its really hard to get a propper look as she is just so fast. As she charges at Seymour he ducks further under the rock and she almost crashes into it, I am wondering now if she has just bashed herself. will keep a close check, just wondering whether to put the fry in a breeding trap I have lying around.

Well after yesterdays panic, I did a small w/c and this morning mum looks fine just a single raised scale on her head flapping about, it was a couple of damaged scales not ich

*note to self, dont panic so much

Still got around 40-50 free swimming babies, the plec has eaten some more by accident I think, he tends more to spit them out when he is with them. I wish I had a video so I could show you the plec "babysitting" its unbelievable.

Still had wrigglers first thing this morning at breakfast, just gone to turn the lights out and they have all gone, all the other fish are frantically sifting through the gravel because mum & dad are too busy now in another corner of the tank flirting and displaying at each other, looks like the second batch is on the way  . At least now if I do decide to keep some I know to remove the fry at 12 days old. Really proud of this pair to have kept fry for 13 days, shame they were all looking really great. So much nicer having the parents do all the hard work!.
