So I was just starting to see shoots on my "floating island" which was my first incarnation of a safe platform for my shrimp fry. It wasnt a bad attempt but I found this on amazon and thought this might looks awesome if it works how I imagine.. excuse the dead-looking-ness, it is alive, the green shoots are coming through, even though it may be a new start... I've used some filter floss for it to anchor down, so watch this space...

It looks good so far... have you considered using java moss in a couple of floating rocks?

That's what I did to start with, but chose flame as I didnt want the craziness of Java. My old setup was afloating island wrapped in moss, tied down with clear thread..brought it from Amazon, but it started to breakup and the thread could be seen because of the algae on it

Interesting... I tie mine down with fishing line and I never have a problem with algae. I guess that’s because mine is so bushy/full. :dunno:

I did really want the floating island concept, some of the aquascapes are amazing with it, but to love with I think this will be easier. I can remove it easier, clean around it easier, not have to worry about fish catching themselves on it. I want a proper little hidy hole for the shrimplets..
