New To Tropical Fish

I just bought new 29g tank. I currently have a 10g tank with a goldfish in it. Since the new tank is a bigger one, I was wondering what kind of tropical fish would go well. I was thinking something like a cichlid but I really don't know much about them. Would anyone recommend anything related to tropical fish or Cichlids? Thanks.

Well there's plenty of information out there to look into. You should pay attention to water characteristics for each fish such as PH, hardness, and temperature. The other attribute to pay attention to is whether the fish is aggressive or a good community fish. You shouldn't mix the two and the aggressive ones will most likely kill the community fish.

Before looking into getting any fish for your new tank you will need to cycle it so the water biology is stable.

I find the best way to find out which fish you like is to visit some local fish shops and take a look at all the fish, take note of them then head home and do some research

you might want to do some reading here beginners resource centre

but there is nothing wrong with doing things the 'old fashioned way' by simply adding in fish every couple of weeks so that the filter will be able to cope, the aquarium is at its most sensitive in teh initial stages of setting up

in the cichlid side of things it might be best to go for new world cichlids such as:

the 'apistogramma' species - cockatoo, borelli, macmasteri...there are loads!
gold rams, blue rams, bolivian rams
