New To This Hobby Here Is My Tank So Far

How did you cycle this tank? Did you buy it used? Did it come with mature filter media? Have you been testing the water to make sure its actually suitable for sustaining life? Because you do know that if you dont have a mature filter with living bacteria your fish are probably being tortured, burned by ammonia and will likely die within the next few weeks. People usually just call it new tank syndrome.

Having had another look at your tank Stray.....That plant in the last photo behind the Parrotfish..... is that a real plant??? It looks mighty suspect to me??

I repeat this question (are you allowed to grow those in your tank)??

I just got back from punta cana... Diving was quite nice there.. hoping to do cuba next.

One question though and I know its a noobie question...

Should I turn the tanklights off at night? and if so can I leave a l.e.d blue backlight on? or do the fish need total darkness at night?

I did some amazing snorkling in Cuba 2 years back - beat any scuba I'd ever done as the coral was about 1 meter down. Awesome!

Lol i believe they are silk plants ludwig,

that is unless those plecos stashed a few seeds in their guts on their way over from south america

Holy Moly,

I didn't expect everyone to get so upset that YES I am new to the hobbie and YES I understand the ray is in poor shape... I already told my girlfriend that whoever you got this from seriously abused their ray and that is why I came here for advice and help in atleast trying to help this ray.

The tank came with a mature filter and I got into reading about cycling the tank last night. I ordered a test kit and it should be here tomorrow. I already dechlorinated the water and the temperature is sitting at 83.

The ray seems to love it so far and that is why I left such a big open area in the tank for the ray to swim with soft sand. The ray wasn't eating the first few days I got him but is now eating VERY healthy, and has gained a considerable amount of weight... I wish I had a picture when I got him. And the fins were eaten by some fish he had before he sold it to my girlfriend but that fish is gone now.

I also let the tank run with the water and filter for two days before putting the fish in to rid most of the chlorine and to let the bacteria form from the old filter.

Oh and about the plants.... those arn't real haha I didn't even notice that before... but there is a couple real ones. : )
