Hi guys and gals.
 
Im Kevin a new tropical fish lover looking to learn.
 
I have a 64 ltr tank which i set up on Thursday, so it doesn't have any fish in it yet. It is currently 'blooming' and has some live plants and moss balls. I am hoping to add fish soon.

Thats great you've joined a forum to learn more about fish keeping, can say you've made a great start.

Thats a great article Ch4rlie, thanks for that. I guess i will have to get the water tested in the local shop as i dont have the kit needed. I was advised by Pets at Home to set it up and wait for it to go cloudy, once that clears i would be ok to add fish... seems he was summerising a bit too much lol

Yes, thats exactly what a lot of LFS, well, most of them anyway, do "summarise" how to do fish keeping

 
Always best to do your own research and ask on this forum for advice if you're ever unsure.

BTW, a test kit is worth investing in, try not to go with paper strip dip kits as these can be pretty unreliable. Get a liquid test kit if you can, most members on this forum uses (including me) API FW Master Test Kit, usually cheeper online but worth shopping around.

As Ch4rlie said I would wait and do a fish-less cycle. Along with a liquid test kit you'll want some ammonia which you can find sources for HERE. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Keep us posted

Thanks guys, i have the test kit and ammonia on its way from Amazon so i will hold off putting anything in the tank till thats sorted.
 
I am thinking i will like some Tetras, guppies and mollys. I would also like some shrimps and snails for the bottom.

my water has cleared today, is this a good sign?

Yes, water clearing usually means bacterial bloom is clearing.
 
You still have a ways to go yet but getting that test kit is a good step and purchasing a ammonia source is a good idea too so you can start the process of getting the bacteria you need started as soon as you get these in the post
