Hi all, My names rochelle... And im from nottingham.

Iv recently set up my first and new tank, 10 days ago now but still no fish as iv been told by an aquatic store that my water still isnt right (Perfect PH, but the test that turns the water green and yellow was a tinge or yellow.. i was told thats deadly to fish?), although they were adiment i came back the following two weekends for more plants, accesories.. so maybe just their way of trying to scam me out of more money! Who knows! Im new to the hobby and only got the tank (4foot, 120litres) for my one year old daughter, when looking into fish keeping, iv become pretty interested, so maybe with some help and advice, i might become a pro in no time! :)

Hi, I found The Wharf at Pinxton to be amazing. They are well stocked and knew what they were talking about (as opposed to a couple of local shops where I purposefully said things that were wrong and they nodded along in agreement)

Hey Rochelle, welcome to the forum!

It sounds as though there is an ammonia reading- it's a good thing you don't have fish in there yet, and you are best off waiting for your tank to cycle first before you add any. If you click on the link in my signature it'll take you to our Beginners Resource Centre, where you can learn anything you possibly need to know about setting up a tank and cycling it. I'd stick the kettle on and sit down and read it for about an hour- it'll be well worth it. And don't be worried about asking questions about anything you're unsure of- we're here to help!

Another very important thing is you need to get yourself is a proper testing kit so that you don't have to rely on shops for water testing. The API master kit is the best thing going and is about £30 in shops, but you can usually find them online for much cheaper

Cheers flute! there seemed to only be a slight hint of it in the water, and i bought some of this rain water stuff that i was told should sort it out. A friend advised me to add some of her pond water into the tank and let it filter through, apparently her pond water is tested regular and is perfect.. not sure if thats a good idea to do. Today i descovered that i did infact have things living in my tank, some snails! i only found two and i can only assume their from the rooted plants i bought at the weekend. Ill be sure to have a read of what you suggested and a roam around the forum this evening with a good old cuppa!
