New To The Forum - New To Tropical Fish

Thanks :p

The little rock on the left was actually broken, the red plant on top of it is actually fitted by me to cover the hole ^^

The rock on the right is nice, its about 2" off the back wall and has plenty of space for the fish to hide in shade if they want. The plants in the left and right corners are silk hanging ones. The left hides the Fluva3+ Filter from view, the right provides shade over the rock.

The green/red/green plastic plant in the middle is going to be moved 3" to the left to cover the heater better.

The light is a Fluorescent Original Tropical light... apparently lol. You cant see the hood on it but it was about £38 and its aluminium. Black on the outside reflective on the inside.

So tips please everyone :) What do i need? Should i have more shelter? Or plants? Or is it ok? How much space between heater and plants? Is the filter on the left ok? It shoots out air aswell but do i need something seperate? ect ect

Just noticed the snail !! GARY WOO SPONGEBOB... lol anyways.

Aslong as the rocks/plants arnt restricting the waterflow the whole aquarium looks fine, once fully cycled it should be great for some small tetras and a few guppys. Also careful as plants have been known to get scorched or melted from the heat of the heater so you may want to considder movin that.

Out of interest how many fish do you think would be comfortable in there?

Have you checked out your local fish store?

For my tank i'm going to have 3 shoals of tetra, guppy (male), one pelco for the bottom, and some small tiger barb. My tank is smaller than yours by 10 litres.

Yeah i went to a place called Wet pets, they are pretty cool. They only deal with fish and lizards and were really helpful. But there quite technical and somethings just went over my head lol.

My tank works out to about 126L :)

126? Wow I got that wrong, not to good at maths and volume apparantly :D I remember seeing a shop in romford or dagenham called Wet pets, wondering if thats what your talking about? If it is, i've been in there a few times and sat down for a while and had a chat with them they are nice guys.

Nah it Wet Pets in Sutton In Ashfield. Maybe just a branch of the chain?

Yeah i worked out...... 36" X 12" X 18" X 0.01623

:D

126L? Sorry I'm probably getting confused, but you said your tank is 3ft x 1ft x just over 1ft. ..If this is correct then wow. because 3ft is less than a meter. My 125L tank is 121cm long, by 30cm width x 34.5 height and that equals 125L

Now to this sites calculator and using ft. Your tank is 3ft x 1ft x 1.3ft (40cm) = 110L.. Although I could (and probably am) wrong. Do you mind posting up ALL the measurements in cm please.

Thanks

*EDIT just saw your post in inches. 127L

I suggest poping in there and getting to know them, check the tanks out and have a good look at the fish its worth it as you'll be visiting them alot :D

Haha yeah i can see that ^^ Im going to start looking for a cheap breeding tank soon, i could really get addicted to things like this! Just need to make a bit of room >.>

i wouldn't put guppys with tiger barbs, the barbs will rip the guppys apart?

nice tank by the way.

If you want to breed fish then id suggest you get 2 female guppys, and 5 male guppys as they are crazy breeding fish, and then get a small nano tank with a heater and a air filter/weak filter to keep the fry in

Did you wash all the ornaments, plants and gravel before adding them to the aquarium? If you didnt thats probably why its cloudy atm. :)

Little update for you all!

I messed around a bit last night with the tank, moved the plants a little bit further from the heater, trimmed the hanging plants so that there was not too many trailing leaves and turned down the heater (Now showing between 25 & 26.5 ^^).

Got up this morning and the tank is clear again! PH test showed between 7.5 and 8 and the rest seemed fine :p
