Hi all,

Ive just ordered my new tank, its a 60g. Looks great and cant wait for it to be cycled so my fish can move in.

My question though, is will it be big enough for my plec? i know they need lots of space to swim about and be happy, but is this big enough for him?

Hi Emz. I have an 11" or so common plec in my 75g tank. Although he has plenty of room now he keeps on growing. He does look kind of confined as he's so big. I don't know how long I can keep him. I rescued him from my niece who kept the poor thing in a 5 gallon tank. Luckily he wasn't stunted and survived. She'll be heartbroken if I have to give him up and I'm becoming quite attached myself. Hopefully he'll stop growing soon. They are very messy as well. Although 60g will seem fine for now, these are things to consider in the future. Who knows though. You might suffer from a case of MTS (multiple tank syndrome) and rehouse your plec in the future. My wife would kill me but that might happen to me (I hope!!!) one day. I already have three but I'd love a 125g!!!! Hope this helps.

Sorry, my plec is a gibby not a common. Not sure if that makes much difference? I know they still get rather big. I love my Plec and if he eventually needs a bigger tank then i will have to help him out.

Gibbies also grow to about the size of a common plec... he will indeed be needing a larger tank.
