I'm soooooo excited!!!! :yahoo: I was originally going to get a 94 litre interpet river reef, and now, suddenly, i am probably getting a 250 litre custom made tank!!! I was going to put 30 - 40 dwarf cichlids in the tank (grow 2 inches full length), which would look stunning! But i was hoping that everyone that reads this, would make some suggestions to what i should stock the tank with!!! Thanks alot, Alex. :good:

30-40 dwarf cichlids? Such as what? Unless you are thinking of Malawi's i don't think you stand a chance of housing 30 let alone 40. How big are you thinking? 4ft ish i guess?

Yes, it is 4 ft, maybe bigger, and they were malawi's, not sure what kind though, they were tiny!!

But what size do they grow to? Although it would look effective, i would soon get bored with one species of fish in there no matter how many there was. I would always be looking at all the other Malawi's with different colours thinking i wish i had this one and that one... Just a thought mate.

Are you definately set on Malawi's then?

no, i'm not definitely set on malawi's and i am open to suggestions, what would you put in there?? I mean there are SO MANY species of fish it's hard to decide, although the malawi's are beautiful!! Alex :good:

I've recently gotten quite into lake tanganyika cichlids after owning a group of fairy cichlids for a while. But I also have a tank with a pair of breeding kribensis in which is extremely rewarding to see them growing up and all the different stages of the courtship to them becoming able to fend for themselves. I also have a new world cichlids tank which has a pair of firemouths, a pair of angels and a pair of jade eyed cichlids in it along with a few catfish and plecs. It's quite a nice setup now I have thinned it out a bit, lol. I am attempting to get the firemouths breeding as they're one of my favourites.

Nothing wrong with malawis though mate if that's what is your favourite kind, just make sure you get compatible ones as some are way to aggressive for others and make sure you don't get any that will out grow your tank as you have to have a large group of them.

thats good news and as you;ll now know it opens up so many more possiblities for you

I suppose it depends on what kind of set up you want, community, colourful active fish, specimen lessactive fish

Firemouths are ace and a set up based on those would be a lovely tank and less complicated maybe than malawis

Your right, it's great to have that bit more freedom!! Out of interest, what makes firemouths less complicated than Malawi's?? Thanks alot, Alex :good: Cos i was thinking maybe a tank of these.....
