New Tank

hi moved this to here rather than the other bit
thinking/bought a jewal rio 125 tank the questions are
are they good/bad/indifferent?
stocking ideas for this size would be great?
whats the best internal filtration for this tank?
heater size 100w?
sand/substrate?
plants. live/silk/plastic?
cheers in advance this is our biggest tank so far so any ideas or tips for stocking/landscaping etc would be very much appreciated

125L is a bit large for internal filtration but a Fluval U4 would probably do it. I'd probably go with 200w of heating but maybe you could get away with 150w. You could plan to fishless cycle with mature media from one or more of your current tanks but using up to 1/3 of the biomedia per donor filter and also squeezing out the remaining sponge material (cleaning it in other words) directly in the new tank.

YEP it does have a built in filter box where the heater(100w) is situated do you think i should add a another heater also do you think i should add another filter?
i have a spare heater 300w?also a spare fluval u2 filter?

You can probably ignore my comments, I'm afraid I've been too lazy to go find the machine where I stored some interesting notes about heater sizing and I was just throwing in the 150, 200w thing based on the fact that I personally use 200w on a 106L/28G tank. But the 200w is way oversized for my tank. Heater sizing depends of course on the ambient temperature situation. If the tank is placed in a colder location then the heater will have to raise the temp more degrees. (sorry, even all this typing hasn't inspired me to go find the right answer )

if you have all the parts for the box filter, then i'd use it. If you want to up filtration, then use the U2 as well. As for the heater, i'm sure the 100w comes with the tanks anyways, so stick with that one. Just buy a cheap tank thermometer to keep an eye on your temp.
