New Tank

Thinking about getting a new tank as mine's too small for what i want to keep , i've seen a 200 litre one locally which is currently a marine setup complete with filter heater etc.

If i got this would i need a new filter or anything as it would have had salt going through it? and would i need to do anythin with the tank apart from clean it and pop some declorifyer in ?

I fancy getting a Green Terror (juvi) as they look awsome and according to another site would be ok in a community tank of around 200 litres if kept by itself and if it kinda grows up with the smaller fish. i do have an out clause on this if it goes wrong as i know a few people who have oscars who said it should be fine with that .

if the above wouldnt be recommended i was thinking of getting either of the below

oh and what i have already is (slightly overstocked but theyre all little atm)
4 guppy's
1 pink kissing gourami(going to get another of these)
2 angel fish
1 siamese fighter fish
and 1 blue /neon rainbow fish (going to get another 2 of these)

Just thought i'd see what's recommended really before i go and waste money and time on something that wont work.

Redtail sharks turn aggressive as they apporach adulthood, I wouldn't advise them with angelfish or bettas. The green terror and parrots will most certainly do a lot of damage in your tank, the GT definitely killing the fighter and angelfish, eating the guppies, parrots vary a lot, but generally are too aggressive for a community. The kissing gouramis might be robust enough to stand up, they do lack the long trailing fins of other gouramis, but I don't know there. Snakeheads are mean fish, I doubt any of the fish you have would be safe with one.

With a plan B in place, the blood parrot would be the only one I'd risk - the GT would almost certainly have to be moved, and the snakehead is just asking for a bloodbath.

Dwarf cichlids like rams, apistogrammas, and keyholes (not dwarf cichlids exactly, but they share the peaceful disposition of them) would be suitable, possibly kribensis, though the betta might get nipped in that case.

There are a couple of stumbling points in your current stocking, that I will cover first

Fighters usualy go for male guppies, once mature. If young then there may not be an isue now, but there most likely wil be in the future
Angels usualy rip male guppies and fighters to pieces, again once mature so juv's may not yet.
Pink kissing Gourami got to about 18" if I remember correctly, so even a 200l won't be big enough IMO

With that in mind, consider that the Green Terror are ntably agressive, and most of your current stock would not fend well with one once mature...

The RTBS would likely be OK, so long as it sets-up shop in one corner, not in the center of the tank

Blood Parrots will eat smaller fish, and possibly horass the larger fish, though in most cases, they are fine with larger fish

I don't know enough about snakeheads to comment about them, but I think they are the same as the Terrors TBH

Look to have either the fighter and guppies, and/or the angel and guppies/fighter traded in at the LFS for the RTBS and more rainbown. Rainbowns need a group of 6+

thanks for the reply , what would the green terror be alright with in a 200 litre tank? only bigger fish ? (i would be willing to give away what i have)
the site/shop with info on fish said the shark/snake head etc are only semi aggresive all lies.... i thought about the parrot fish as looking aroudn they only need 100 litre aquariums so thought theyd kinda get there own space.

Just seen the above post , i was looking at the kissing gourami's only got to around 10-12 inch's fully grown mine are like an inch and a half atm. my angel fish are juvi's and tbh i dont intend on keeping them when they get bigger . the current setup is generally peacefull , sometimes the betta goes for the rainbow fish , rainbow fish need to kept with certain sex or does that not matter , i read that 2 females and one male or thetotherway round .

and as for the current stocking...*shakes head at LFS* nosoup4you has been very helpfull recently , and quickly advised that i was somewhat overstocked and little mis matched with

The green terror would need other large and agressive tank mates that would stand their own. Things like firemouths are OK I think, basically larger cichlids, most plecs also

green terrors IMO are one of the nicest fish but at the end of the day is a cichlid and i wouldnt mix with anything else than another large cichlid it all depends on what fish u want the most then base the rest of your stocking around that

Ahh thats ok because i was thinking of getting more if i didnt get any semi-aggreesive/agressive fish.

When i had a quick look about the green terror it said 1 in 200 litre's and 2 would require 300 litre, as i'd only be getting a 200 litre would this mean i would be able to realisticlly just fit the green terror in ?


and as for the tank coming from mariune setup would it just be clean the filter and tank with water out of my current tank?

Yeh kinda why i am prepared to let fish go, i have been looking at pics and things of them and they all seem to look gorgeous and have a really awsome colour to them .

Wash the tank and filter media as per normal prior to first use, with tap water, and then set up and fill up and cycle/clone filters

Whether you are limmited to just the GT depends on your filtration. Its an 8" fish that is very messy, so it will need to be "overfiltered" for much else in with it, and waterchanges of 50% weekly will be needed if anything else goes in with it, preferably more often.

Thanks for the reply and advise , tank will be over filterd i'd imagine with the filter im getting which was previously used in 6foot tank .

Very hard trying to decide with fish , i can see why those with the time and money have multiple tanks! Like the green terror and osars as they both look awsome and have a good personality(well not to other fish ). like my current fish too though i guess ill stock up what i have and when i have the money get a 300 +tank and get some larger cichilds then. Think i'll get a pair of rams for now , whatever type the lfs have in guess.

But luckily with the cycling process taking some time will give my time to think on what i want.. either lots of differnt types of fish a couple of superb fish .
